Screning of "Crossing the Dust" by KSSO

KurdishCinema.com - 12 December 2007

To celebrate the launch of a new Kurdish
Society at SOAS university, a film viewing will be
held in association with KSSO

Kurdish director Shawkat Amin Korki's latest
feature film "Crossing the Dust" will be screened
at KSSO (Kurdish Studies and Students
Organisation) in England. The director will attend
the special screening and a Q & A session will
held with the audience.

The screening will take place Saos University
Russell Square Campus WC1H OAL (Close to
Russell Square) at 7 pm room G51, at School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) University,
London on Thursday, 13th of December 2007.

KSSO invited everybody to '"come join Mr Korki as he
talks about his new film and answers questions
from the audience. All are welcome to attend this
free viewing starting from 7pm till 9pm."

"Shawkat Amin Korki's "Crossing the Dust" tells the
story of two friends, Azad and Rashid, and their efforts
to find the parents of a 5 year old Iraqi boy during the
chaos of the 2003 Iraq war.

Azad and Rashid are 'pesmergas' Kurdish fighters who have fought the Iraqi government for the
rights and independence of their people. The boy is named Saddam after fallen Iraqi dictator
responsible for ethnically cleansing and gassing thousands of Kurds.

What ensues is a dramatic and soul searching
adventure with Azad and Rashid arguing over the fate
of the boy.

The provocative and controversial film will no doubt
have audiences questioning the meaning of their own
identities as fate brings together two nations torn apart
by decades of racism and conflict."
